Ingredients:
- 335 g flour
- 15 g sugar
- 225 g (vegan) margarine
- 2 tbsp water
- pinch of salt
*You can use this pie base to make our La Vida Vegan Pecan Pie.
The instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and a pinch of salt.
- Add the cubes of cold margarine to the flour mixture.
- Knead into a cohesive dough. Make sure not to let the margarine melt too much.
- Add 2 tablespoons of cold water and mix the dough gently.
- If the dough is too dry and not coming together, add extra water little by little (about a teaspoon at a time), until the dough just comes together.
- Form the dough into a ball, flatten it into a disc and wrap it in plastic wrap.
- Let the dough rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow the margarine to set and make the dough easier to handle.
- Remove the dough from the fridge and roll it out on a lightly floured work surface until it is big enough for your cake tin.
- Place the rolled out dough in the pie tin, poke holes in the bottom with a fork to prevent air bubbles and use it immediately for your favourite pie filling*.
